Modern humans (Homo sapiens) have existed for roughly 300,000 years. Paid, structured work only began with the Industrial Revolution about 265 years ago.
To put that into perspective:
We’ve been engaging in this model of full-time paid work for less than 0.1% of human history.
If we condensed all of human history into a 24-hour day, modern paid work would have started in the final minutes.
No wonder we are still questioning its meaning and value today. The modern work model is incredibly new, and its impact on the human spirit is still being defined.
And it’s in that pause, where questions about meaning, direction, and purpose arise, that Sustera begins.
We don’t believe people truly burn out because they’re too busy.
They burn out because they are disconnected from meaning.
That’s why we do more than simply match people to roles. We match them to resonance, to cultures, missions, and environments where they can grow into who they are meant to become.
